Rehabilitation on PNG's 55 lighthouses

8:09 am on 1 December 2006

Papua New Guinea lighthouses are to be restored in a 49 million US dollar deal with the national government.

The civil work on 55 lighthouses, under a phase three contract, is part of the rehabilitation of the country's maritime navigational system in eight provinces.

The Governor-General Sir Paulius Matane has signed the contract on behalf of the State with the Curtain Brothers company who will carry out the contract, and the Department of Transport.

The Post Courier newspaper reports work is expected to start next February and will be implemented over 8 months.
