Fiji opposition leader says there is still time for dialogue to resolve crisis

2:58 pm on 4 December 2006

Fijis opposition leader, Mick Beddoes, says it is not too late to agree to further dialogue.

Mr Beddoes says there is a way to discuss the issues without the threats from the military to replace the government with an interim administration.

He says Commodore Frank Bainimarama may be claiming hes in charge, but the government is still functioning.

"Obviously, the prime minister is still there, he's not removed, his cabinet is still intact, the cabinet ministers are still operating. I mean, I'm still functioning as the opposition leader, I'm a member of parliament. Parliament is still undissolved, therefore parliamentary authority still exists as far as I'm concerned."
