Tonga's devastated business community in Nuku'alofa has been allowed to delay their payments of Consumption Tax and Duty for up to six weeks.

The Minister of Finance, Honorable Siosiua 'Utoikamanu has approved the deferred tax payment for businesses who suffered damages from the November 16 riots.

He told the Matangi Tonga online that affected businesses must be supported and assisted so they can resume trading as quickly as possible.

He says Treasury will take over the payment of Consumption Tax and Duty fees in the interim.
