One of Samoa's election candidates and petitioner, Papalii Samuelu Petaia, has called on the government to seriously consider a change of electoral laws to stop corrupt practices in future parliamentary elections.
Papali'i's call follows the success of his election petition case where the Fa'asalele'aga number two constituency MP, Letoa Rita Pa'u Chang, was found guilty in the Electoral court of eight counts of bribery and treating.
Papali'i says parliament should change the law by restricting the amount of money a candidate must spend in an election campaign.
He says he is concerned that the current law has no restrictions which he believes is another cause of corrupt practices.
Meanwhile the court has found the woman MP, guilty of giving 1500 US Dollars to the petitioner's village with the intention to induce voters.
Letoa was also found guilty of giving 600 US Dollars to other electors and voters of the constituency before the by-election the 22nd of September.
