Seminar in PNG on Trade deal negotiations

12:53 pm on 8 December 2006

The Papua New Guinea government has held a seminar on overseas trade.

The seminar was organised by the Department of Commerce, who invited the Industry Metra Economic Consulting firm to present their findings on a study of PNG's in trade services.

In 1995 PNG agreed to a schedule of binding commitments under the General Agreement on Trade in Services or GATS, which listed restrictions on foreign companies and foreign nationals' participation in the services sector.

The Post Courier reports the seminar gives stakeholders the chance to reassess the country's commitment to GATS, and interest in ongoing negotiations at the World Trade Organisation.
