The chairman of the commission reviewing possible political options for American Samoa says contrary to media reports, it will complete its report to the fono and governor on time.

Tufele Liamatua says the commission's deadline to completing the report is December 31, and he says an extension is not needed at all.

He says there are two main options on the table - one to keep the status quo and the other to become a commonwealth.

"The fono and governor decided that a review of the current constitution and the laws of our territory should be reviewed and see if there are other political status that are more advantageous to American Samoa. 17"

Tufele Liamatua says the commission plans to table the report in January.
