American Samoans resist latest audit

4:10 pm on 18 December 2006

Some government departments in American Samoa are refusing to cooperate with auditors from RC Holsinger Associates who have been contracted by the government.

The auditors are currently in Pago Pago reviewing financial paperwork for fiscal year 2006.

But in a memo, the governor Togiola Tulafono says he has been advised that departments won't deal with auditors, who are checking programmes in line with federal requirements and prudent local practice.

Togiola says departments and their management have the right to insist upon presentation of identification of persons claiming to work for RC Holsinger as well as information pertaining to the scope of the audit.
