Fiji GCC meeting ends without public comment

It remains unclear what Fiji's Great Council of Chiefs' has decided in its efforts to resolve the current crisis.

Despite three days of meetings the secretariat is yet to finalise the GCC's resolutions.

The ousted general secretary of the council, Adi Litia Qionibaravi, who was sacked by the military last week, says the chiefs will not release any details of the resolutions until they have consulted the military commander, Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

Commodore Bainimarama has warned that the military will go after members of the Great Council of Chiefs if they resolve that he be sacked and the Qarase government return to power.

Speaking on a Fijian radio talkback show, Commodore Bainimarama says people should accept that the military is now in power and there is no turning back.

He says the military can stay for fifty years as no one will stop the military from what it has started.
