The Australian prime minister, John Howard, has joined his Foreign Minister in criticising the decision
Mr Howard says any country has the right to declare a person undesirable, but it's unwarranted in this case.
"There is, in Australia's view, no justification for him being declared 'persona non grata'. Any country has the right to do that, but I have the right to say on his behalf, and on Australia's behalf, that it is an unfair and unreasonable decision and not justified by anything he did."
