PNG's former treasurer says Moti inquiry must be open

Papua New Guinea's former treasurer says the government's banning of the media from the Julian Moti inquiry is dictatorial.

The inquiry into who helped the Solomon Island's suspended Attorney General leave PNG in a defence force plane began several weeks ago, but the public and the media have been banned from the hearing.

The Post Courier quotes former treasurer Bart Philemon, the leader of PNG's newest political party, the New Generation Party, as saying that the government is no better than Fiji's new military regime.

Mr Philemon says the people have every right to know what happened and the government's behaviour shows it has something to hide.
