A Samoan man in Honolulu will serve more than a year in federal prison for stealing copper wire from the U.S. Missile Defence Agency.

Anesi Olive plead guilty in August to stealing more than half a kilometre of copper coil and was sentenced by the federal court in Honolulu to 16 months in jail.

U.S. Attorney Edward Kubo Jr., says Olive removed the coils with a forklift and flatbed truck owned by his employer.

A recycling centre paid him about $7,000 for the four coils he stole.
