The American Samoa Senate is expected to vote later this week on a proposal to establish an investigative committee to probe various issues in government.
The proposal sponsored by Senator Alo Dr. Paul Stevenson seeks to create a Senate Select Investigative Committee (SSIC) to review government operations and financial conditions.
The committee will also investigative any unlawful, improper, wasteful, fraudulent or abusive procedures and practices.
If approved, the SSIC will take over all hearings, minutes, records, testimony, documents, files, subpoenas and other information from Senate Standing Committees that were given investigative powers last year.
The SSIC will also continue any past and pending investigations of the standing committees.
Senate President Lolo Moliga will appoint the nine senators to sit on the committee once the measure to establish the SSIC is approved.
