PNG PM invited to give evidence for defence inquiry

5:20 pm on 15 January 2007

Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has been asked to give evidence at the PNG Defence Force Board of Inquiry.

The National newspaper reports Sir Michael has been urged to verify if he indeed gave the orders to secretly fly fugitive Julian Moti in a military plane to the Solomon Islands on Oct 10, 2006.

The senior counsel assisting the inquiry John Kawi told the hearing that he had sent an "invitation letter" to the PM to attend the inquiry on Friday.
