Samoa's Ministry of Finance, has issued a warning to all government chief executive officers over the abuse of public funded vehicles under their responsibilities.
This comes after a recent accident which involved a government vehicle used by a government CEO, plus several reports of misuse of vehicles after working hours.
Heads of government ministries and corporations may face a fine of up to 125 US Dollars ($400 tala) for abuse while public servants at the wheel without proper authorization may be fined not more than 50 US Dollars.
A memo informing all public servants of the new policy has also instructed CEO's to purchase the standard double-cab pick-ups for them to use instead of luxury vehicles.
