The Taiwan government is funding the purchase of a plane for the Marshall Islands domestic airline.

On Wednesday, Taiwan's ambassador to the Marshall Islands delivered a cheque for two million US dollars to the government to buy a Dash-8 aircraft from a United States-based leasing firm.

Last year, Taiwan's funded an aircraft for another of its Pacific allies, Nauru.

The Marshall Islands established diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 1998, and Nauru was the most recent island nation to change from recognizing China to Taiwan in 2005.
