Solomon Islands teachers return to work

6:16 pm on 29 January 2007

Primary and secondary school teachers in Solomon Islands have resumed classes after agreeing with the Government on a communiqué to address their grievances.

The Government and the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association (SINTA) signed the agreement yesterday.

Amongst the lowest paid employees of the government, teachers have been calling for better terms and conditions.

Both parties agreed in the communiqué that teachers will not go on strike over their demands and that the agreement be reviewed in July so that all understandings carried in the document are fully implemented.
