Vanuatu launches internet TV

2:36 pm on 2 February 2007

The first internet-based TV station of the region has been launched in Vanuatu.

Vanuatu.tv offers items about Vanuatu lifestyle and highlights accommodation, restaurants and business activities.

The CEO of the new web station, Grant Abbott, says with a simple mouse-click people all over the world will have Vanuatu at their fingertips.

UNESCO has praised the programme, but its spokesperson for the Pacific states, Abel Caine, says he hopes it will develop to also provide more news coverage.

"We are hoping that that website will into a broader TV website where they will be featuring news and current affairs and information sharing. That is the state where we believe it would be of more benefit to the people of Vanuatu."
