Fiji's police commissioner designate, Romano Tikotikoca, has left Solomon Islands to take up his new position.

Mr Tikotikoca has been working as Security and Community Relations Manager of Solomon Islands' only mining company, Gold Ridge Mining Limited.

Mr Tikotikoca, a member of the Fiji Police for 38 years, joined Gold Ridge Mining 19 months ago after retiring from the Fiji Police as deputy police commissioner.

Mr Tikotikoca says he views his recall to be Police Commissioner as a calling to serve.

He says others can criticise him for serving a government that is illegal, but he is going back to help the Fiji Police.

Mr Tikotikoca says Fiji police have been through this turmoil in 1987 and 2000.

He says he was instrumental in restoring police confidence back then and that is what he will be doing again this time.
