A Samoan man who has lived in American Samoa for 11 years has been jailed for 10 years on drugs charges.

Savelio Maletino was arrested in 2004 after police found around 200 marijuana plants at his home at Leone village.

He has been in custody since then.

The defendant pleaded guilty to drug possession last October while another charge, possession of a prohibited weapon, was dropped under a plea agreement.
