Light plane crashes in Fiji killing pilot and two passengers

A light plane crashed in remote hills near Lautoka in Fiji's west late yesterday afternoon killing all three people on board.

The Cessna 172 belonging to Advance Aviation Training Academy based at Nadi Airport was on a sightseeing flight with a pilot and two passengers on board.

Villagers who reached he crash site in hills which are not accessible by road confirmed the three deaths.

They said the wreckage was badly burnt and only the nose and parts of the wings were identifiable.

A village eyewitness said she saw the plane spin twice in the air before it crashed at about 4.00pm local time.

Search and rescue authorities including police abandoned efforts to reach the crash site as darkness fell and will resume this morning.
