The police in Fiji say three people, including two Canadian tourists, have been killed in a plane crash.

The crash happened on a mountain near Lautoka yesterday afternoon.

A police spokesperson, Inspector Ranga Gounders, says the 4-seater Cessna lost contact with air traffic control shortly before it crashed.

"The plane crashed on the montain of Abaca waterfall. Police officers, soldiers, villagers, firefighters all went up to assist in locating (the wreckage)and to see if they could help survivors. But unfortunately the three were dead."

Ranga Ganders says due to bad weather and fog, it was impossible to remove the bodies last night.

He says a police investigation will continue today.
