Australian conman Foster jailed in Vanuatu

Australian conman Peter Foster has been sentenced to six weeks' jail and handed a fine for illegally entering Vanuatu after fleeing there from Fiji.

Vanuatu police spokesman, Superintendent Willie Ben Kalo, says the jail term will be backdated to January 14th when he was arrested.

He says the court also imposed a fine of just over 1,000 US dollars.

Foster pleaded guilty earlier this week to a charge of entering Vanuatu without a valid visa.

He fled there last month, after skipping bail in Fiji where he is wanted on fraud charges.

Foster, who had been jailed for fraud in Australia, Britain and the United States, is also wanted over a bank scam in the Federated States of Micronesia.
