New Zealanders continue to be the leading visitors to the Cook Islands.

New figures show they accounted for 47 percent of arrivals last year.

The Cook Islands Herald says New Zealand visitors' numbers continued to show good growth overall with a 5 percent increase over 2005 at just more than 43,000 arrivals.

The figures exclude Cook Islanders living in New Zealand.

The newspaper says provisional visitor arrivals statistics for last December show the highest visitor count on record for a December.
