Solomons late with student applications for tertiary study in PNG

The Solomon Islands Government is seeking leniency from tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea for the very late submission of SIG sponsored students to various PNG institutions.

Education Minister Dr Derek Sikua says this was because the final list of the government's scholarship awards for this year will not be finalized until this Friday.

Dr Sikua says the release of the list was 'very' slow and therefore his ministry would seek leniency from relevant authorities in PNG for the late arrival of Solomon Islands students at tertiary institutions in the neighbouring Melanesian state.

He says late registration for Solomon Islands students at the University of the South Pacific will not be a problem as Solomon Islands is a member of the USP and therefore could be given leniency.
