Solomons Opposition leader says Cabinet is a twenty-headed monster

10:39 am on 13 February 2007

The Solomon Islands parliamentary opposition has described the government as a twenty-headed monster.

Opposition leader, Fred Fono, used the phrase during debate on the 2007 national budget.

He told parliament that not only was the Cabinet too large, but it had also increased the size of the Public Service.

Mr Fono said, because of the twenty-headed monster, the 2007 budget will expend more money on salaries and wages of ministers, MPs and state workers and less on rural development.

Debate on the budget continues today.
