Samoa's former deputy leader of the Samoa Democratic United party, A'eau Peniamina Le'avai, is not giving up efforts to have an opposition party in parliament despite the speaker's ruling in November last year when the SDUP was no longer recognized.
A'eau has left SDUP but is currently working towards convincing seven Independent MPs to form a new political party before a motion will be made in parliament for the Electoral act and the standing orders to be amended for this to happen.
The MP has quit the SDUP because the party is no longer recognized in parliament as an opposition.
But the MP's move has been criticized by some political observers who say A'eau has left his party because he had hoped to be its leader.
