The Fiji-based Pacific Concerns Resource Centre says Bikini Day is a reminder not be passive in the face of nuclear tests.

Today marks the 53rd anniversary day of the detonation of the US hydrogen bomb in the Marshall Islands.

The atoll was the test site for more than 20 nuclear weapons tests between 1946 and 1958.

The PCRC's Ema Tagicakibau says today commemorate the harsh reality of the nuclear legacy.

"And to encourage Pacific people to utilise limited resources that they have and to use the information to channel that positively to work towards a more secure, more safe Pacific for their children."
