The Papua New Guinea electoral commissioner, Andrew Trawen, says some politicians in the five Highlands provinces are to blame for a surge in fictitious names on the electoral rolls.
He says unless the practice ceases he's prepared to declared failed elections when the country goes to the polls in late June.
Mr Trawen has revealed that ghost names on the rolls include Elvis Presley, and Britain's King and Queen,
He says ghost names and double entries are rife and voter registrations are up to 33 per cent above the estimated number of eligible voters.
The election is to start on June 30th and run for two weeks but the commissioner has warned he's prepared to cancel polling in electorates where voting has been marred by manipulation, intimidation and violence.
In the 2002 election, widespread violence, intimidation and electoral fraud occurred in the Highlands, and in Southern Highlands province six polls out of nine were declared invalid.
