The drought affected parts of Queensland will soon be using water tanks made from Papua New Guinea.

The National newspaper reports that Lae-based company Hornibrook NGI Ltd is now negotiating with certain industries in Queensland regarding the export of PNG-built water tanks.

Apparently, Australia is facing a shortage of boiler makers and welders and is unable to meet the demand for water tanks triggered by severe drought in Australia, particularly North Queensland.

Hornibrook director Sherron Lewis says the would boost the company's steel fabrication business.

He says if negotiations are successful, Hornibrook will be the first to export water tanks to the lucrative Australian market.
