The New Caledonian government is today launching its New Caledonia New Zealand Season 2007 in Auckland to lift the profile of the territory.
Athletes, artists, musicians and dancers from the territory will tour New Zealand and perform in arts and sports events.
The co-director of the event, Briony Ellis, says the happening will promote the territory to New Zealanders.
"The idea is that over the course of 2007 through the visits of various artists and athletes to New Zealand, New Zealanders will gain a better understanding and a better sense of New Caledonia, which is New Zealand's closest neighbour."
Briony Ellis says a very likely outcome is a better awareness of New Caledonia as a tourist destination.
