Five people are dead and three are missing following renewed flooding in Fiji's north and west on Friday and Saturday.

Four deaths have been reported from around Labasa in Vanua Levu, one of them being a 29-year old woman, Nazima Shah.

The body of a 45-year old man who was wept away on Saturday night has yet to be found while a child who was swept away is still missing.

13 other people escaped being swept away by clinging to a tree top.

At Tavua on the main island, a 25 year old man was swept away by flood waters with his body recovered from a cane field about three kilometers downstream of the flooded Nasivi River.

A 24 year old man disappeared while swimming in the Nadi River but his body has not been recovered and police believe he drowned.

A family managed to escape as two landslides demolished their home near Lautoka.

This is the second time this year that the same areas of Fiji's north and west have been hit by floods.
