In Papua New Guinea, relatives of a 20-year-old woman allegedly raped by a parliamentarian have compromised a police investigation by accepting compensation.

The Post Courier reports that the MP is believed to have paid the woman and her family compensation.

The Police Commissioner Gari Baki says he is very disappointed with the development.

He says police have already worked on the case and will continue to pursue it.
