The New Zealand met service says weather conditions in the southern chain of islands of Vanuatu are expected to abate this morning as tropical cyclone Becky moves southwards and away from them.
It says the cyclone is approximately 150 kilometeres west of the southern chain of islands of Vanuatu and is approximately 120 kilometres north of the Loyalty islands of New Caledonia.
The central pressure of the system is estimated at 975 HectoPascal and is moving south at about 10 knots.
The New Zealand met service says the Loyalty islands of New Caledonia are likely to experience damaging gale force winds, frequent heavy rain and squally thunderstorms later this morning.
It says flooding, including sea flooding of low lying coastal areas is also expected.
However, the met service says cyclone Becky is slowly weakening.
