The government of Papua New Guinea has initiated a review of the country's tariff policies.
The Treasury department is spearheading the review, and has commissioned Auckland-based Uniservices Ltd to undertake an independent review of the tariff review programme and policies.
The aim of the review is to provide a comprehensive assessment of tariffs and consider the costs and benefits of the programme to the economy and whether any adjustments are needed.
The National newspaper reports PNG is currently involved in negotiations for an economic partnership agreement with the European Union, but already has binding obligations to the World Trade Organisation, the Melanesian Spearhead Group and the PICTA trade agreements.
