New Caledonia on alert for Cyclone Becky

New Caledonia is bracing itself for tropical cyclone Becky, which has affected Vanuatu over the past days.

Warnings are in place for the Loyalty Islands and the Noumea area as the system approaches.

All schools are closed and public services have been scaled down.

People have also been advised against moving outdoors and to be particularly cautious when crossing rivers or creeks, due to the risk of flooding.
