Sixteen U.S. based amateur ham radio operators left American Samoa yesterday for Swains Island on a planned expedition to the remote atoll.

Swains Island Delegate, Alexander Jennings, says the team, which includes businessman, doctors, and engineers, are taking supplies, such as tents, equipment and food items for Swains.

Mr Jennings said the team will also donate a ham radio and a generator for the radio, to ensure comminication is available between Swains and the world.
