NZ Governor general visits Niue

New Zealand's Governor-General, Anand Satyanand has started his first official overseas trip since taking up the post last year in Niue.

He leads a 25 member group of prominent New Zealand Niueans, Niuean representatives from the New Zealand armed services and other government officials.

Anand Satyanand says New Zealand and Niue enjoy a special relationship and his visit highlights that relationship.

Moera Tuilaepa-Taylor reports from Niue:

"The governor general and his party were officially welcomed by New Zealand's High Commissioner to Niue and Niue's High Commissioner to New Zealand. Anand Satyanand's visit here will include a formal meeting with the Niuean assembly, a meeting of the Niue cabinet and a tour of major infrastructure and aid projects. New Zealand is Niue's main aid donor. The Niue government introduced a number of measures earlier this year to reduce the size of the country's defcit. The Governor general will also visit Tokelau, the Cook Islands and Samoa later in the year."
