The All Black winger Sitiveni Sivivatu has been discharged without conviction on charges of assault against his wife.

Name suppression was lifted at the Hamilton District Court on Thursday despite his lawyer and wife requesting the suppression continue.

It was revealed in court Sivivatu had slapped his wife with an open hand twice.

Judge Connell said the consequences of him being convicted would outweigh the seriousness of the offence.
