Samoa Dialysis Unit General Manager suspended

Samoa's Dialysis unit General Manager, Leaupepe Penny Mata'utia, has been suspended while the government audit office and police investigate alleged fraud and misappropriation of funds within the National Kidney Foundation.

The decision to suspend the General Manager comes after the Financial Manager of the Kidney Foundation was fired several weeks ago.

The country's Health Minister, Gatoloaifa'ana Amataga Gidlow, has told the Samoa Observer newspaper that around $20,000 US Dollars is allegedly misappropriated from the foundations funds.

The minister says this was through forgery of the suspended manager's signature on a cheque by the sacked financial manager.

But she points out that Leaupepe was not implicated in the offence, and her suspension has to do with managerial issues.
