Special session called of American Samoa's Legislature

10:26 am on 23 April 2007

American Samoa's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, is expected to address a special joint session of the Legislature tomorrow.

The governor called the session, which will convene for 15-days, to consider five specific issues, which includes two items of legislation along with nomination confirmations.

The Fono leadership had send a letter to the governor inviting him to address the joint session so that he could explain to lawmakers the significance of the legislation before them.

One of the important bills the governor wants the Fono to approve during the special session, is the guest worker permit legislation, which would assist Starkist Samoa in hiring an additional 200-300 cannery workers for the company's planned expansion in tuna pouch production.
