A Samoan woman holding a chief matai title, Matatamali'i Sonja Hunter, has been appointed to head the Samoa Tourism Authority.

The new chief executive officer was the former general manager of the same government office seven years ago, when it was known as the Samoa Visitor's Bureau.

Matatamali'i's appointment comes after Matafeo Reupena Matafeo's was sacked over allegations of sexual harassment, which were investigated and upheld by the Ombudsman office.
