Strike threat at French Polynesian public broadcaster RFO

1:35 pm on 1 May 2007

A group of unions at French Polynesia's public broadcaster RFO has issued a strike warning, accusing the management of a lack of impartiality and making arbitrary decisions.

The unionists want some staff to be reclassified and their status reviewed.

The two sides are to meet today and should they fail to settle their differences, RFO will go on strike later this week.

The planned action comes just days before the run-off election to choose of a new president in France.

The Tahitipresse news agency says a strike threat has also been issued at two major hotels on the island of Moorea.
