PCRC says Fiji media freedom lost

4:04 pm on 3 May 2007

The Pacific Resource Concerns Centre, or PCRC, in Fiji says there is no free press in the country although its citizens are celebrating Media Freedom Day today.

The freedom of speech and expression is honored today as the world is marking this year's Media Freedom Day.

But the director of the PCRC, Tupou Vere, says the press in Fiji has been silenced by the interim regime.

"The access to the media to find out the real information, as we mark media freedom day today, we see that our members of the media do not have access to information."

Tupou Vere says the media should be able to operate freely and work independently.
