The premier of Malaita Province in Solomon Islands, Richard Na'amo Irosaea, says his province will continue to promote and embrace a united Solomon Islands.

Speaking at the opening of this year's first provincial assembly meeting in Auki, Mr Irosaea said the alliance for the development of Malaita government would focus on strengthening and fostering ties with all provinces in the country through the development.

He said the major vision is to develop the provinces' human and natural resources in order to continue to maintain its contribution to the national economy.

His comments follows years of pressure for more provincial independence, possibly through a federal system of government, because some of the country's provinces felt that Honiara had not delivered during the years of ethnic violence.
