No word from RAMSI about Maina made Solomons envoy

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands has declined to comment on the government's appointment of a special envoy to RAMSI.

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, appointed Michael Maina - a former police minister who was sacked from cabinet two years after he had been charged with theft - as RAMSI's special envoy.

As the special envoy, Mr Maina's job is to ensure that RAMSI keeps to its mandate that legalises its operation in Solomon Islands.

Mr Maina will also be supported by a standing committee of respectable citizens who will offer advice on the country's position on important issues.
