The Fiji Nurses Association says it is against a proposed cut of overtime for its members.
The ministry of health has issued a new directive for nurses to take time off instead of being paid overtime.
But the Nurses Association general secretary, Kuini Lutua, says its members don't like the idea.
"Right now, we have been trying to talk to the minister of health regarding non-payment of overtime. That is not fitting in well with our nurses because of the additional workload that is put upon a nurse that has to take on additional duties when other nurses are not available to work overtime."
Kuini Lutua says the association is also awaiting confirmation from the ministry of labour for its secret balloting that was in favour of a strike because of a five percent pay cut.
