Queensland go one up in State of Origin

Queensland warhorse Steve Price has dispelled age as a "myth" after the oldest man on Suncorp Stadium stood tallest in a thrilling Maroons escape act in last night's State of Origin rugby league opener.

In Queensland's 25-18 win, after being down 18-6 at half time, coach Mal Meninga praised the Warriors captain as his best player.

Price produced 22 tackles and 14 hit-ups while his match-levelling 58th-minute try could have given him two for the match but for being denied by a forward pass call

Tonga born Melbourne Storm forward, Antonio Kaufusi, looks unlikely to add to last evening's Origin debut in Sydney after sustaining knee ligament damage in the second half.

Queensland's U19s tasted success in the first curtain-raiser, overcoming Papua New Guinea U19s 36-12 after scores were deadlocked 12-all at half-time.
