Samoa Parliament to start second session tomorrow

9:45 am on 31 May 2007

The second session of Samoa's 14th Parliament opens tomorrow under amended standing orders.

The session will not be opened by the head of state following the recent death of Malietoa Tanumafili II.

Sessions are normally opened by the head of state but that requirement was amended to apply only to first sessions as a gesture to the age and health of the late head of state.

The parliamentary speaker, Tolofuaivalelei Falemoe Lei'ataua, says that amendment maybe changed when a new head of state is appointed next month.

Tomorrow sessions will see the tabling of the second main budget for 2007/2008 financial year by the Minister of Finance, Niko Lee Hang.
