Solomons plans two by-elections after Sanga and Ulufa'alu deaths

The Solomon Islands electoral commission is drawing up a timetable for two by-elections after the recent death of two parliamentarians, Joses Sanga and Bartholomew Ulufa'alu.

The chief electoral officer, Musu Kevu, says the commission is also working on the likely costs to hold the by-elections.

Mr Kevu says there was no 2007 budget allocation to fund a possible by-election and a submission will have to be made to get money to hold the elections.

Mr Sanga died at the end of April and Mr Ulufa'alu died ten days ago.

Both politicians represented electorates on the island of Malaita.
