Palau's President Tommy Remengesau has taken his call for greater environmental conservation measures to public radio in the United States.

Mr Remengesau spoke about the need to protect the environment locally and globally during an interview with Robert Siegel on National Public Radio's All Things Considered.

The Pacific Daily News reports that the president noted that climate changes threaten Palau's growing ecotourism market and the lives of its people.

He said the change in the world's climate is a threat for Pacific nations and territories, citing the cases of Kiribati which he says is slowly being submerged by sea and Palau which has had a drought that has lasted for months.
